Fringale Restaurant, San Francisco

This past Saturday we had dinner at Fringale and enjoyed it.  It was our second time visiting the restaurant and mainly chose it because of convenience - only a few blocks from our house.  During our first visit I ordered the Traditional Duck Confit served with Lentils "Du Puy" in a red wine sauce based on a recommendation from one of Rachel's colleauges and it was very good.  I highly recommend this dish as it was the best duck I've ever had.  On this past visit I ordered the Roasted rack of Lamb au jus served with potato gratin and snow peas and it was very good, lamb was cooked perfect and went very well with the glass of Malbec I ordered (name?).  Rachel ordered the vegetarian dish - Fettucini pasta with wild mushrooms, baby carrots, petit pois & parmesan cheese and she enjoyed her dish.  Service is very good at this cozy restaurant and main courses run $19-$25.

Midi Restaurant, San Francisco

My second time at this restaurant tonight - and another great meal.  One might question the fact that this restaurant is attached to a hotel (Galleria Park Hotel) - but not to worry -the food is great.  I think the wine list could use some help however.  I tried the Lamb Shoulder tonight and it was very tender and tasty with thinly sliced vegatables and a great sauce. This restaurant is a nice option for a financial district option during the weekday.  No need for reservations - just roll in and grab a table.

Boulevard Restaurant, San Francisco

We grabbed our usual seats at Boulevard last Friday evening - counter space at the kitchen.   I've actually never dined at a normal table in this restaurant and that's fine with me considering that reservations are hard to come by on short notice.

I started with the Monterey Red Abalone which was a great combination of seafood and vegatables (Heirloom Tomato) with an incredible Green Tomato Tartar Sauce.  For my main dish I had the Eden Valley Berkshire Pork Prime Rib Chop sitting on a bed of Spaetzle - which was cooked perfectly.   I asked the waiter for a Pinot and he recommended the Peay, Pomarium, Sonoma Coast 2006 - it was such a great glass of wine.  A smooth Pinot that went perfectly with the Pork.

Rachel went for the tried and true vegetarian plate which is always a great surprise for her.  She may disagree but I think Boulevard offers the best vegetarian option for a fine dining restaurant in the city.

Service was just a bit off that night - but still pretty good.  I highly recommend this restaurant to those visiting San Francisco.  Consistently a winner and still my favorite.

La Mar Cebicheria Peruana, SF CA

One of our favorite new restaurants in San Francisco, we have yet to be dissapointed with La Mar.
The Cebiche Mixto, Causas, Anticuchos and rice plates are all consitently great. The atmosphere in this restaurant is really relaxing and they have really renovated the space quite nicely.  Pisco Sours are the best here - very authentic.  If it's a nice day out - dine on the patio out back and watch the boats come in and out.
